Great post !

People are becoming either more wary or savvy of not only the oto concept, but memberships in general. The freemium model when used with these "ninja" tactics provides both a fair and risk free way for the consumer to both check out the content as well as see the value in upgrading membership.

I would say it really is a genuine win/win for both parties.

I see the value of what you're saying here. For the last couple months, I've tried a slight variation of the Butterfly Marketing model, where a free membership is offered up front with a paid offer on the backend. The end result is that I have 1300 free members and only 50 paid members.

I've already set up my site so free members can see the paid content, and my backend offer is a discount (valid for 7 days only), but this alone hasn't been enough. I'll definitely hide my free offer, and structure it as a lead-in to my paid offer.
